Dodgeball Tournament Rules PDF Print E-mail
    1. Teams – made up of 5 participants including at least one female, with NO subs (18 years or older, unless waiver signed by parent or guardian).
    2. Object – to get all players “OUT” on the opposing team.  A player is considered “OUT” if he or she is hit by a ball (without bouncing or hitting the fence) or if he or she throws a ball that is caught by an opposing player.  In the event that a team catches the opposing teams’ thrown ball, that team may welcome back in a player who had been previously called “OUT”.  A “SAVE” can occur if an opposing player is hit with a ball and a player from the same team catches the ball before it hits the ground.  In the event that a “SAVE” occurs no team loses a player.  All “OUT’s” and “SAVE’s” are judged through the honor system and referee.
    3. Start of the Game – each game begins with 4 balls.  Two balls will be placed on each side, 2.5 feet from the center line.  Players will start at their own end-line and on the referees call will retrieve only the balls on their side.  But, before the ball can be thrown the retrieving player or players must first return to the 15 foot ‘start’ throw line.  If a ball is thrown prior to first returning to the ‘start’ throw line, that player is “OUT”.
    4. Game – each game will be 4 minutes, timed by a referee.  During group play all head to head matches will be best of 3 games.  A team is considered the “winner” of the game if all players are knocked out on the opposing team or the team has more players remaining on the field than the opposing team when time runs out.  A tie occurs if time runs out and both teams have the same amount of players remaining on the field.  A (2-0) record will count for 3 points, (2-1) record will count for 2 points and 0 points for a (0-2) or (1-2) record.  A tie record (1-1-1) will award both teams 1 point.  Also after each game, players will be counted that are left on the winning team, for playoff tie breaker purposes.
    5. Making the playoffs – After group play, all points will be added.  Number of teams making the playoffs will be determined by the amount of teams in the tournament.  If two teams are tied for a playoff spot, a tie breaker will be decided by head to head competition or total number of players left after each match play game.  Playoffs will consist of a best of three series and games will have an unlimited time limit.
    6. Timeouts – During group play each team will have one 45 second timeout for each head to head match, (not game).  In the playoffs three 60 seconds timeouts will be allowed by each team.
    7. Boundaries – all players must stay within the fenced playing area (35 feet by 75 feet) during the game.  The entire fenced in area is in play.  Each side of the field will be marked with a 15 foot ‘start’ return line behind the center of the field.  All males must throw at all times behind the 5 foot marked line and all females must throw from behind the center line.  If a player throws a ball when stepping over their respected throw line the team will receive one warning, then any player who throws over the respective throw line will be “OUT”.   No player may cross the center line at anytime during the game, if so they will be considered “OUT”.  If a player is “OUT” they must sit, kneel, or squat in the ‘marked’ area behind the end-line.   No player is permitted during the course of a game to retrieve balls outside the fenced in playing area.  No player may stand behind the end-line in the ‘marked’ “OUT” area, unless they are retrieving a ball or are “OUT”.
    8.  5 second rule – No team can have possession of all 4 balls for more than 5 seconds.  Every time this occurs, that team will have to give a ball to the opposing team.  However, if only one player remains that player will have time extended to 10 seconds.
